Field campaigns
ClimEx field campaigns aims at measuring the wave setup (i.e. the surge due to wave breaking) in nearshore areas. The field campaigns will deploy a very high number of low-cost pressure sensors during several winter seasons, in order to have a fine-scale description of the process.
Winter 2023-2024 field campaign
In December 2023, ClimEx team deployed 30 low-cost pressure sensors in nearshore areas, at Blancs Sablons, Le Conquet (France). The objective was to test these prototypes, which aim to measure the wave setup (the surge due to wave breaking) in nearshore areas. Two ships were used to deploy the sensors, one operating in very nearshore areas (Hésione 2, from the European Institute for Marine Studies) and the second one operating offshore (Albert Lucas, from the European Institute for Marine Studies). The instruments recorded the high-frequency sea levels during all the winter. All the sensors were recovered in April 2024. The data are now being analysed.
